Data Management Developer Worksite: Falls Church, VA Contract Length: 10 months with an option to extend Pay: $80,000 - $100,000 Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident This position is remote during COVID-19 for now, but candidates should be within commuting distance to Falls Church, VA. The position is normally 100% onsite. Mindbank Consulting Group has an immediate need for a Data Products Developer to provide technical support on data products/services development tasks for the Species Range delineation project. The Data Products Developer will provide data management expertise, programming, and technical support for updating species range maps for species listed under the Endangered Species Act. Data Products Developer Responsibilities: Continue the development and implementation of a user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) based data products/applications/services to support SDM efforts using scientifically vetted/published package and modules Write and optimize code for processing extremely large environmental (structured and unstructured) data-sets Provide assistance in automating data acquisition process for complex ecological data sets from variety of sources and their normalization Develop and implement testing protocols for software packages and modules Follow and comply with FWS IT standards and security framework for software development tasks and Identity Management requirements Provide expert support in developing/refining Statistical and Machine Learning algorithms being deployed in data products/applications/services Assist in quality assurance/quality control for data being used on pilot projects consistent with developed SOPs and refine SOPs based on feedback from pilot project Deliver (online or in person) training to Service employees, interns, and other partners who use data products/applications/services Develop software and automate capturing Range data Assist in piloting projects that are implementing the protocols to inform and further refine the protocol Provide support in development of recommendations for data standards and oversee implementation of approved changes to ECOS to host the new or revised species range maps Support the project s effort to establish collaborative network of ES managers and users to implement the SOP and develop species range maps for over 1,600 species Assist in coordination and engagement work with other Federal agencies, States, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties in sharing data that inform species range delineations Participate in working groups that assist in developing additional or revise existing standard operating protocols or guidance to address data collection and storage for Current Range map requirements, processes, or procedures. This could include developing additional methodologies for delineating Current Range (eg using spatially explicit habitat modelling) and delineation of a Consultation Notification Area or buffers Provide support for making programmatic effort to recode ranges from Field Office based ranges to one range per species Job Requirements: Data Products Developer Qualifications: Software development experience with statistical software and packages, including machine learning frameworks in R and Python Experience with R Shiny and OpenCPU platform is highly desirable Good understanding of Structured Query Languages (SQL) Knowledge of Geospatial software such as ArcGIS or comparable mapping products, and spatial data management and manipulation using ArcPy Skills in User Interface (UI) design principles is highly desired Skills in communicating effectively (orally and in writing) Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with multiple partners, working teams, and organizations Ability to manage a complex task, including short-term and long-term planning, goal and policy setting, and monitoring accomplishments Biological training and/or knowledge is not required but would be beneficial Why should you work for Mindbank?
