Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers in the preparation of drawing for a variety of civil works project, and utilizing AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Assist engineers in the preparation of quantity estimates, and ensures technical accuracy of calculations and project features.
  • Assist with conducting site reconnaissance for the purpose of: (a) collecting data on existing, anticipated, or as-constructed conditions, (b) analyzing and selecting tentative field locations for specific project features.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to travel which may consist of up to 25% of the time.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Position will require some physical exertion which includes the ability to lift objects, walking, standing, and carrying numerous items of equipment required for sampling and/or conducting inspections.
  • The incumbent may work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including periods of extreme heat, cold and inclement weather.
  • Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Relative experience would include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. [At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.]

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience defined above may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

For positions being filled at the GS-06 or above using the Technical and Medical Support Group Standard, it is permissible to use graduate education in place or in combination with experience if the education is directly related to the work of the position. You should discuss with the hiring official during the strategic recruitment discussion and if graduate education will be used in the qualifications process, adhere to the requirements found in CHRA Guidance Bulletin (CGB) 338-12-CGB-01 at http://www.chra.army.mil/a_char/tools/gps/view.asp?ID=668 . If using graduate education in the qualifications process, be sure to follow the same format used for the GS-03 through 05.

If a determination is made not to use graduate education in the qualifications process (i.e., no education directly related to the work of the position), then occupational questionnaire and job opportunity announcement will consist of experience only.
