McDonald Army Health Center partners with Air Force Hospital Langley, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, Hampton, VA, providing care for beneficiaries who reside on the Peninsula. Fort Eustis, Virginia is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach.

Responsibilities

• Perform dressing changes in accordance with aseptic standards within the clinic treatment areas, cleanse minor wounds and burns and removes sutures.
• Prepare different steroid medications and joint lubricants for injection and aspiration under direct Physician/Physician Assistants supervision.
• Operate specialized medical equipment to include: pulse oximeter, dynamap or equivalent, cast saw, mini c-arm.
• Pre-screen medical records of patients with future appointments to ensure Computed Tomography (CT) Scans, X-rays, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Electromyography (EMG) tests are available for viewing by the Orthopedic and Podiatry Providers.
• Obtain and apply needed splinting and casting materials appropriate to the patient's condition.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a wide range of orthopedic procedures such as construction and applying splints; tractions and casts; assisting surgeons with routine and specialized surgical support tasks; and utilizing automated health care system to track test results and update electronic health records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
