Purpose Statement:

The HR Generalist I supports the Director of Employee Relations and Engagement with personnel records management, labor-management issues, employee investigations, performance counseling and evaluations, training and development, new staff orientation and onboarding, and various engagement activities. This position also prepares and submits HR-related compliance reports, employment verification forms, and unemployment claims. The HR Generalist I provides daily customer service to supervisors and employees including principals, senior managers, teachers, classified staff and external customers. This position is an entry-level position to the field of Human Resources administration.

This job reports to the Director of Employee Engagement and Relations.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree from 4-year accredited college/university program required. A combination of experience, training and education may be substituted in lieu of degree requirement.

Certificates & Licenses: HR Certification preferred.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of professional work or intern experience under direct supervision required. Preferred experience: K-12 public-school experience in human resources.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist the Director of Employee Engagement and Relations with:
  1. the intake of personnel requests (e.g. ADA accommodations, personnel matters and investigations).
  2. coordinating employee meetings, training conferences and professional development activities
  3. new staff orientation and on-boarding activities for new employees.
  • Completes and maintains various reports for the purpose of providing HR office metrics and statistics respectively.
  • May compose confidential letters, PowerPoint presentations or other documents from the drafts and templates created by the Director.
  • Collects data and maintains HR compliance reports and labor postings (i.e. EEO-5, FLSA compliance posters, etc.).
  • Maintains the database of the on-line employee performance appraisal system:
  1. Assists school and office supervisors and employees with software questions of the on-line performance evaluation system
  2. Helps ensure completion of annual evaluations by tracking and provides detailed reports, updates
  3. Monitors employee performance evaluation completion rate for accountability purposes in accordance with the Division strategic plan
  • Utilizes and integrates HR information and record management systems to ensure accuracy and proper retention of employment records
  • Maintains paper and electronic records and conducts periodic audits to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal law, as well as Division guidelines.
  • Assists with workplace investigations. Under direct supervision of the Director, travels to school sites and offices to conduct fact-finding reviews, collect information and assist with conflict resolution.
  • Makes recommendations for efficiency and improvement of tasks to the Director
  • When necessary, visits ACPS worksites and schools to assist with training and development, fact-finding, assess working conditions for ergonomics and accommodations, and conflict resolution.
  • May assist with other HR projects as assigned.
  • May perform other duties as assigned to support the Department of Human Resources and school division.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):
  • Ability to manage multi-tasks/projects under tight deadlines.
  • Able to maintain the strictest confidentiality and discretion of personnel information.
  • Must be able to use office equipment (calculator, copier, computer, telephone and fax machine).
  • Proficient with use of computer software MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • With training, able to learn new computer software of the HR information system (HRIS)
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to do fact-finding using mature judgment and objectivity.
  • Must produce college education or training credentials to validate knowledge.
  • Must pass successful reference check to validate KSA.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Exercises attention to detail with the ability to produce high-level quality work.
  • Maintains a calm and professional demeanor with employees under stressful conditions.
  • Must be highly proficient with document control and demonstrate high accuracy and consistency with paper and electronic filing systems.

Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
