Summary

As a Government Information Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the administration of the EEOC's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act programs. The work involves a wide range of FOIA duties that support the processing and rendering of decisions regarding FOIA requests for Headquarters agency records, appeals from field office initial determinations on requests, and other information.

Responsibilities

As a Government Information Assistant in FOIA Programs, you will perform the following duties:

1. Provide technical assistance with the administration of the agency's FOIA and Privacy Act programs.
2. Support the processing and rendering of decisions regarding FOIA requests for Headquarters agency records, appeals from field office initial determinations on requests and other information.
3. Exercise independent judgment, and comprehensive working knowledge of FOIA processes, policies and procedures.
4. Download FOIA requests, appeals, status inquiries, and other FOIA communications from the official agency FOIA websites.
5. Log incoming and completed requests and appeal processing information into FOIAXpress (FX).
6. Apply practical knowledge of the agency's FOIA/Privacy Act to accurately communicate standard information concerning the status of requests and appeals to the public and internal staff.
7. Provide substantial assistance and support to resolve complaints from requester(s) and the public concerning FOIA processing delays and other matters by enlisting assistance from the responsible field FOIA component.
8. Knowledgeable of the functions performed by other agency offices/programs to quickly respond to public inquiries and FOIA requests.
9. Maintain accurate records of the number and nature of public inquiries received in the Office of Legal Counsel and compiles data as needed for fulfilling its reporting requirements.
10. Coordinate as needed with staff, including high level officials, within and outside the agency.

Qualifications

For the GS-7: You must have one-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Specialized experience includes having knowledge of standard processes and procedures of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and having knowledge of basic policies governing submission of FOIA requests.

Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-6 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 7 level.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
