This position is located in the Board of Immigration Appeals, Executive Office for Immigration Review, U.S. Department of Justice. Incumbent is a Supervisory Attorney Advisor serving as a Senior Adjudication Team Supervisor.

Responsibilities

The Supervisory Attorney Advisor, Senior Adjudication Team Supervisor manages a team of attorneys, paralegals, and/or other professional support staff in the review of extremely complex legal questions and the drafting of proposed orders with recommendations for disposition regarding a range of issues involving foreign and domestic areas of immigration law for which the Board will vote on accepting as a final order.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Directs an Adjudication Team that reviews cases under 8 CFR 1003.1(d)(3), Powers of the Board , including questions of law, discretion, and judgment and all other issues in appeals from decisions of immigration judges de novo and all questions arising in appeals from decision issued by Service officers de novo .
  • Prepares memoranda summarizing the facts of each case reviewed, and proposed orders for review by Board member(s) to vote on accepting as a final order.
  • Reviews legal research conducted by Adjudication Team to determine if evidence is adequate to sustain administrative findings of fact pertaining to removal, deportation, exclusion, visa petitions, fines, bonds, and application for advance permission to enter the United States.
  • Provides direction in the evaluation of facts and evidence to interpret and apply statutes and regulation in en banc matters, precedent decisions, or unusually complex cases.
  • Supervises a team of professional and technical employees providing advice and counseling on work and administrative matters.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Senior Adjudication Team Supervisor position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • Education: Applicants must possess an LL.B. or a J.D. degree. (Provide the month and year in which you obtained your degree and the name of the College or University from which it was conferred/awarded.)
AND
  • Licensure: Applicants must be an active member of the bar, duly licensed and authorized to practice law as an attorney under the laws of a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia. (Provide the month and year in which you obtained your first license and the State from which it was issued.)
AND
  • Experience: Applicants must have four years (48 months) of professional legal experience that includes ALL of the following:
  • Supervising a legal team responsible for identifying factual, procedural, or substantive issues and relevant constitutional, statutory, judicial and regulatory law.
  • Evaluating facts and evidence to interpret and apply statutes in the analysis of legal pleadings;
  • Drafting memoranda of law relating to administrative and substantive legal issues;
  • Coordinating case consultations to address novel questions or factual issues related to immigration issues; AND
  • Administering personnel management for a team of employees. (e.g. selection, promotion, training, evaluation)
  • NOTE: Qualifying experience is calculated only after receipt of LL.B. or J.D.

    Conditions of Employment: Only U.S. Citizens or Nationals are eligible for employment with the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Dual citizens of the U.S. and another country will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All DOJ applicants, both U.S. citizens and non-citizens, whose job location is with the U.S., must meet the residency requirement. For a total of three (not necessarily consecutive years) of the five years immediately prior to applying for a position, the applicant must have: 1) resided in the U.S., 2) worked for the U.S. overseas in a Federal or military capacity; or 3) been a dependent of a Federal or military employee serving oversees.
