DUTIES:  The selected candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Water Treatment Plant. Upon successful qualification, the candidate will operate the plant independently on an assigned shift and carry out other maintenance and operation tasks with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

Water Plant Trainee

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid class C driver’s license.
• Availability for weekend and shift work.
• Six months of related work experience; related experience may be lab work, mechanical maintenance work, utility work or engineering work.

Water Plant Operator

Same qualifications as Trainee plus:

• Two years of relevant experience and the successful completion of the MDE Class 4 Water Plant Operators Exam
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required in water plant operators.
• Ability to operate a variety of types of water treatment equipment, and to check equipment for normal operation, performing preventive maintenance.
• Ability to take accurate readings, check routine records, and to make mathematical computations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience as a Water Treatment Plant Operator and/or prior training in Water Treatment.
• Possession of Water Plant Operator Certification.

Salary:  Water Plant Trainee $20.61 per hour; Water Plant Operator $22.03 per hour, Certified Water Plant Operator 25.18
