Responsibilities

  • The Joint commission (TJC), Accreditations Associations for Ambulatory (AAAHC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and College of American Pathology (CAP).
  • Performs preventive maintenance, calibration, function verification, and safety testing on a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic medical and dental equipment.
  • Installs, inspects, tests, diagnoses malfunctions, troubleshoots to isolate failures, and completes repairs on a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic medical, dental and support equipment used
  • in the various clinics and departments of the medical group and Its supported units.
  • Advises equipment owners, flight management, professional staff, and executive management on technical matters regarding maintain/upgrade/replace decisions within particular area of expertise.
  • Provides training and guidance to other employees.
  • Performs Receiving/Initial Inspections on new equipment.

  • Potential for TDY assignment to other USAF facilities for maintenance support or to manufacturer's facilities for training.
  • Will be required to participate in the Employee Health Program, including TB examination.
  • Requires certification and maintenance of Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
  • This is a drug testing position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. In according with AF Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program (AFI 44-107)


Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a MEDICAL EQUIPMENT REPAIRER without more than normal supervision.

Physical Effort: Subject to moderate physical effort. Frequent lifting carrying, or otherwise handle items weighing less than 50 lbs unassisted. Determines need for assistance based on physical ability for occasional handling of items greater than 50 lbs. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods is required. Requires close eye-hand coordination and normal color perception. Must be a licensed motor vehicle driver for servicing medical equipment located in supported units.

Working Conditions: Potential of electrical shock from handling high voltage/high frequency circuitry exposing the worker to the possibility of shock, cuts, bruises, scrapes, and serious burns. Subject to incidental occupational levels of exposure to ionizing radiation, toxic gasses and fumes, laser light, and electromagnetic fields; applicable safety procedure and devices will be used. May occasionally work from 6 to 8 foot step ladder.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
I. Knowledge of physiology and anatomy to the degree necessary to understand clinical descriptions of equipment malfunctions and their ramifications. Must understand clinical and physiological application of instrumentation to the degree necessary to differentiate between actual equipment failures and apparent malfunctions caused by user error or improper clinical application.
2. Knowledge of analog and digital electronic circuitry and their relationships to patient physiological measurements to the extent required to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in modem medical equipment.
3. Ability to envision complex medical equipment from a "systems" viewpoint in order to correctly localize malfunctions.
4. An understanding of and ability to read and understand electronic schematics and facility blueprints and plumbing/wiring diagrams, as well as manufacturer's operations and service manuals.
5. Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and testing and safe shop practices.
6. Skill in interpersonal relationships and oral and written communication.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
