Summary

About the Position: Serves as an Engineering Technician assisting in the experimental, developmental, production testing, and/or sustainment of chemical biological systems including the functional evaluation of equipment and materials.

This is a term appointment NTE 8 Years which meets the maximum length/years the position can be extended. This position may be converted to a permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition at a later date.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts a variety of tests, i.e. environmental, interference, sensitivity, reliability, operational and electromagnetic on chemical biological systems which are in the developmental and production engineering phases.
  • Sets up the test item, observes the tests and reviews the data obtained making sure the tests meet specified requirements.
  • Operates and/or maintains laboratory and/or pilot-scale equipment for a variety of manufacturing and inspection operations, involving chemical, biochemical, mechanical, and industrial processes.
  • Conduct required evaluations to resolve technical discrepancies.
  • Performs calibrations of specified items.
  • Accomplishes non-routine assignments of a substantial variety and complexity, requiring initiative and resourcefulness, based on knowledge through practical experience in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, and/or process engineering.
  • Provides design and operational data for the planning of tests for optimization of components following specific instructions.

  • Requires business travel (TDY) to other duty locations approximately 15% of the time.
  • This position requires recurring lifting of light to moderate heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • Position requires certification in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) and/or the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP), IAW AR 50-6 and/or AR 190-17
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing Required.

Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes: Assisting with the testing of prototypes for systems such as Chemical Biological Defense systems, and 2) Assisting in the development of prototype products or systems such as Chemical Biological defense rapid prototype products or systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Specialized Experience for GS-10: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Assisting with the testing of prototypes for systems such as Chemical Biological Defense systems, 2) Assisting in the development of prototype products or systems such as Chemical Biological defense rapid prototype products or systems and 3) Providing technical support on development and testing processes and methods such as for the Chemical Biological Defense development and testing processes and methods. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Testing prototypes systems such as Chemical Biological Defense systems, 2) Working directly with Engineers and/or Scientist while assisting in the development prototype products or systems such as the Chemical Biological defense rapid prototype products or systems and 3) Providing technical advice on development and testing processes and methods such as the Chemical Biological Defense development and testing processes and methods. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
