The Sterile Processing Quality Assurance Coordinator will perform quality analytic and improvement activities. He or She will be responsible for managing quality and patient safety in SPD, along with training and education ensuring practice reflects current standards and regulatory requirements.

The SPD QA Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring competence of Sterile Processing staff, and communicating and following up on significant/unusual issues, incidents and trends. He or She will monitor efficiency of efforts and prepare and present quarterly reports; Attend hospital meetings and share information with staff and management team; Serve as a consultant representing scope of expertise for all regulatory aspects of Sterile Processing; Participate in regulatory compliance and direct liaison with Infection prevention and Quality; Assist with the maintenance and support of the electronic instrument tracking system.

The QA Specialist will also assist the Sterile Processing Manager with the implementation of department policies and procedures as well as implementing performance improvement activities. The SPD QA Coordinator must work and think independently, be enthusiastic, self-motivated and be able to integrate activities with those of the larger team.

About Perioperative Services at Children's National

Surgical Services at the main hospital campus is equipped and available to provide 24 hours a day, seven days a week surgical care.

The Perioperative Services Department consists of the following areas:

• Surgery Preparation

• Operating Rooms (17 O.R.'s and 2 Procedure Rooms)

• Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU-12 prep and 35 post anesthesia bays)

• Sterile Processing Department (SPD)

• Radiology

• Endoscopy

• Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Rockville, MD

Children's National surgery center performs nearly 17,000 procedures each year on infants, children and adolescents, including kidney transplants, scoliosis, hernia repairs, and procedures to treat disorders and abnormalities of the esophagus and trachea. Other special services include corneal implants and cataract surgeries, and we specialize in cochlear implant for the ear. Children's surgeons perform laser surgery and employ many types of minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.

Children's National has a world-class team of pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and support staff who have developed a variety of programs designed with children in mind. One of our newest additions is the DaVinci robot and MRI suite.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED
Associate's Degree

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Associate degree in Healthcare related area (such as Surgical Technology, Healthcare Administration etc). (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
5 years in sterile processing

Specific Requirements and Preferences

  • Sterile Processing experience including at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory capacity (Required) And
  • Experience with quality assurance and process improvement initiatives including training and presentation techniques (Preferred) And
  • Experience in quality management techniques intended to improve business processes such as Lean, Six Sigma, Rapid Improvement (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong working knowledge of T-Doc instrument tracking system, or similar system.

1. Manage quality performance, patient safety, training and education to ensure practice reflects current standards and regulatory requirements
2. Use regulatory and evidence-based professional guidelines as the foundation for training and edcuation

2. Work closely with the department and division leadership as well as other members of the team to coordinate quality analytic and improvement activities
3. Attend hospital, quality improvement, infection control and regulatory meetings as needed
5. Serve as a consultant representing scope of expertise for all regulatory aspects of SPD
4. Assist in developing a quality analytics and improvement plan to meet meaningful use quality aims and focused regional quality efforts
5. Assist in developing quality reports to document improvements in regional care delivery
6. Demonstrate the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
7. Proficient in the creation and delivery of presentations to convey information
8. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) (English) used in the workplace
