For more information about AHRQ, click the "Learn more about the Agency" Box.**Applicants please note: Additional selections may be made across the Department of Health and Human Services through this vacancy announcement.**Responsibilities As a Survey Statistician - Health, you will provide guidance to staff within other Centers and Offices of the Agency, to other Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government and to the public, including the States and research organizations. The work effects information and tools needed by health care leaders and policy makers in improving health care financing, access, coverage, and cost nation-wide .Specifically, you will:Developing innovative guidelines to govern data content, collection and dissemination in national health and economic surveys. Providing technical guidance using statistical theory and methods to collect, quantify and evaluate quantitative information as a basis for inference to members of Offices and Centers with AHRQ and to other Government Agencies.Using sound survey management practices and statistical judgment to manage and monitor data collection efforts conducted or sponsored by the Agency in terms of quality and efficiency. QualificationsTHESE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE: 09/21/2020QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. A degreethat includes all of the following coursework: 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and includes 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, eg, courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.ORB.If your degree does not include all of the required coursework for A. You may meet the IOR based on a combination of education and experience. Your education must include the courses as shown in A above (at 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and includes 9 additional semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicable experience should include evidence of statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying known statistical techniques to data such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.Verification of education requirements: You must provide unofficial transcripts documenting how you meet the education requirements stated. Failure to provide the unofficial transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position. A copy of a diploma is not acceptable as verification of this education requirement. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:In addition to meeting the education requirement, to qualify for this position at the GS-14 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service.Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: application of advanced statistical theories, principles, concepts, methods, techniques, and practices to the conduct of national surveys; develop estimates from large complex survey data, applying advanced statistical or multivariate techniques to analyze the data and produce written summaries/publications of methodological and analytical results.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (eg, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social).
