Summary

This is position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, Library Buildings and Grounds (LBG), Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Operations Division, Maintenance Branch, HVAC Section. The incumbent serves as an Insulating Helper performing routine tasks and helping journey-level Insulators with assignments.

The position will require the completion of confined space and asbestos abatement trainings.

Responsibilities

Tour of Duty: Sunday - Thursday (6:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.)

Acts as an Insulating Helper, assisting journey level insulators in general insulation functions using insulation materials and tools. Performs tasks to obtain training and to develop in the basics of measuring pipes and ducts. Learns proper techniques for filling cracks and spots with trowel and cement as well as insulation covering. Learns how to cut, form and set materials. Keeps track and provides various tools and equipment to the journey level insulators. Assists journey level insulators by cleaning surfaces and preparing materials. Learns how to safely abate insulation and asbestos material, collect samples and build containment areas.

Strictly adheres to regulations, requirements and prescribed work practices to safely engage in asbestos, abatement work on a variety of mechanical, pipe and HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air-conditioning) systems. Follows regulated abatement clean-up and waste disposal procedures. Assists in setting up lead containment barriers and worker decontamination facilities.

The incumbent is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
