Responsibilities

Major Duties: Independently performs maintenance used at the journeyman level of several occupations, Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting, Electrician, A/C Mechanic. The job was established primarily to perform a combination of maintenance, repair, manufacture, modification, equipment operation and equipment inspection/certification involving diverse skills. Duties performed at the journeyman level are Plumbing, Carpentry electrician and air conditioning / refrigeration mechanic. All other duties are performed at the apprentice level.

Performs the full range of work involved in major repairs, overhaul, maintenance, and troubleshooting on interrelated environment control systems, composed of individual subsystems, i.e., air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, electronic systems, and all other air conditioning and refrigeration components, i.e., blowers, motors, pumps, valves, etc. Interrelates with management, engineers, other technicians, manufacturers, suppliers, and customers in developing modifications, new assemblies, substitutions or corrections to equipment to increase life expectancy, reduce breakdowns and simplify repairs, servicing, and operations.

Position performs a variety of tasks involved in the repair of shelters, containers and related structures, fixtures, and utilities associated with the Force Provider System. Work assignments include but are not limited to visual inspections, operational tests, fabrication, and design modifications, etc. to produce the desired configuration.

Removes, installs, maintains, repairs, designs and test electrical systems, feeder systems, related switches, distribution panels, outlet boxes as well as a wide variety of electrical alarms, fixtures, tools, pumps, motors, fans, and appliances. Diagnosis system or equipment malfunctions and repairs as necessary. Inspects maintains, cleans, repairs, tests and adjusts electrical generators, commercial feeder systems, security light sets, light fixtures, fans, heating systems, appliances, thermostats, electrical equipment used to chill/freeze/cool filter air. Test circuits and equipment by use of standard tools of the trade to include voltmeters, amp meters, watt meters, meggars, and ohmmeters. Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit, inserting splices, and making connections to fixtures, outlets, receptacles, sub-feeder and feeder boxes and power sources.

Performs the full range of journey level plumbing tasks including installing and maintaining supply and disposal system and equipment such as: sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems; water fixtures, lavatories, showers, sinks, dishwashing machines, etc. Typical tasks include: planning and laying out the routing, placement, slant, fall, and proper location of systems and equipment; installing valves, traps and unions where needed for proper functioning of the system; assembling of pipe and fittings; hanging or laying assemblies into position; testing for leaks; clearing difficult stoppages in drain pipes; disassembling and repairing damaged sections, including fabricating replacement parts when necessary. Uses hand and power tools common to the trade.

Determines type of repair, modification, or fabrication using Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWR), Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Maintenance Bulletins (MB), repair plans, Technical Manuals & Bulletins (TM & TB) and blueprints and/or diagrams. Repairs and/or replaces vehicular frame, body structural members, surfaces, sub-surfaces, and gussets; applies body type modifications, shrinks stretched metal, and assures proper fit and adjustment. Cuts and fabricates body panels from aluminum or steel. Load tests van and shelter lifting points, using appropriate diagnostic equipment such as dynameters, scales, and fixtures. Repairs metal and wood floors, walls and ceilings using a variety of material and fasteners such as wood, insulation, linoleum, epoxy, adhesive, rivets, bolts, inserts and sealant to secure and seal.

Operates a variety of snow removal equipment and fixed and power attachments such as snow blowers, snow plows, Front end loaders and spreaders used in cleaning snow from roadways and large paved areas. Operates vehicle, manipulates levers and controls to engage equipment. Performs operational maintenance, makes minor repairs and adjustments.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to obtain license and operate a variety of Material Handling Equipment up to and including service vans, snow clearing equipment, man / scissor lifts and pickup trucks. Knowledge of shop mathematics to plan and layout work and measure materials. Skill to repair, modify, and troubleshoot major environmental control systems and sub-systems such as air conditioning, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, pneumatic, electric, and temperature controllers. In-depth knowledge of the use of equilibrium charts of liquid bromide solutions to understand the liquid to gas relationship of various compounds and change in phases. Skill in recognizing and correcting malfunctions in the refrigeration circuit in chemical chiller unit, and in utilizing psychrometer chart used in heating, cooling, dehumidification and reheating of air for environmental control.

Knowledge of electricity, pneumatics and their interface with each other as applied to control of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Skill and knowledge to perform field adjustments and calibration to control systems. Uses schematics, drawings, blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and technical manuals. Knowledge of and skill in using a variety of test equipment such as volt/ohm/amp meter, high vacuum pumps, volt and amp recorders, thermocouple vacuum gauge, u-tube manometer, electronic high vacuum gauge, sling psychrometers, electronic leak detectors, air flow manometers, and other tools of the trade.

Knowledgeable of the make-up, operation and installation of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and controls. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building plans, wiring diagrams, sketches and engineering drawings. Duties require a broad knowledge of how a variety of supply, disposal and utility and equipment such as water, sewage and gas systems are installed and operate. Applies skill in the use of tools and equipment of the electrical and plumber trade. Is familiar with and skilled in the use of accepted trade methods and techniques, and in the use of shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs and circles in planning the layout of piping systems.

Job requires knowledge of mobile equipment construction and methods of fabricating and repairing body structural members, surfaces and sub-surfaces. Requires skill in use of body working materials and equipment to cut/fit panels, apply body filler, and to grind, and sand surfaces to uniform contours. Employee must possess the ability to determine if assignment can be completed with established man-hour standards, and determine parts and material requirements. Requires the ability to interpret pertinent technical data, plan and lay out work and knowledge of shop math to develop patterns to fabricate wood and metal parts and components.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Lifts objects from moderate to heavy weights (Maximum weight of 50 lbs, anything over 50 lbs will have assistance), climbs ladders, scaffolds, and work from platforms. May work in cramped and awkward positions, reaches, bends, lifts while using tools, parts, and/or equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work inside and outside in a variety of weather conditions. Subject to exposure to dust and dirt, grease, fumes, noise, etc. Workers are also subject to cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shocks, etc. Safety equipment is provided to minimize hazards.
