This position is located at the DCARNG Army Aviation Support Facility on Fort Belvoir, VA with responsibility for the performance of the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting,preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, systems, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.

Responsibilities

As a(n), AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-11, you will perform but are not limited to the following duties;
Performs Crew Chief duties with full maintenance responsibility for assigned aircraft. Number of aircraft to be assigned to an incumbent is predetermined by taking into account such factors as the complexity, size, and maintenance requirements of aircraft, the unit mission requirement to have Flight Mechanic or Flight Engineer on board during missions, etc. Diagnoses problems with all aircraft system and components, perform required repairs and accomplishes required preventive maintenance. Serves as a point of contact for assigned aircraft, receiving written and verbal discrepancies from pilots and diagnosing problems. Documents deficiencies, malfunctions, and the repairs required to return aircraft to serviceable condition. Contacts Allied Shops personnel to perform specialist working such areas as sheet metal, avionics, propeller-rotor, engine, etc., and oversees the work performed. Assigns and directs the work of one or more subordinate air-craft mechanic(s) to include less than journeyman level.Performs the full range of preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces. Using a variety of methods including test equipment, visual checks, and instruments diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components, and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns, and makes needed adjusts to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions,hydraulic systems, etc. Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems.Accomplishes or monitors the performance of periodic inspection, daily inspections,refueliug/defueling of aircraft, and all servicing operations.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military rank and assignment in the District of Columbia Army National Guard.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Minimum Rank: E-4/SPC
  • Maximum Rank: E-6/SSG
  • MOS: 15
  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS): PCS not authorized
  • Relocation Incentive: Incentive not authorized
  • Selected Reserve Incentive Program: Acceptance of this position will cause termination of Federal bonuses pursuant to respective Selected Reserve Incentive Programs (SRIP). This termination may be with or without recoupment of payments already made.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the DC Army National Guard.

Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months' of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
