Summary

The team lead will be responsible for coordinating the production of BJS publications. As team lead the incumbent interacts with the director of BJS, supervisors, program managers, analysts, etc. to coordinate the development of publications and products and manage the publishing process for BJS. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, writing and editing, technical documents, and producing materials on complex issues for both a technical and non-technical audience.

Serves as a team/work leader, leading team efforts in the development, implementation, and/or evaluation of program or project responsibilities. Facilitates team or unit processes by working with team members or employees to ensure that tasks are completed, that good working relationships among team members and with management officials are maintained, and that team priorities and goals, needs, and achievements are coordinated with management.

Articulates, interprets, and explains highly complex, potentially controversial, and scientifically significant issues in a range of presentation media, such as reports to Congress on agency achievements, proposed legislation, or reports on major research efforts to inform the public, academic or research community.
Produces materials on complex issues for both a technical and non-technical audience. Collaborates with subject matter experts in a particular area, such as criminal justice, social science, law, or other fields, to properly communicate technical information.
Develops, writes and edits technical documents, ensuring accuracy, consistency, format, completeness, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax.
Prepares written publications and other products for dissemination using advanced technologies and processses.
Modifies established methods or derives new methods of developing and presenting complex information to maximize understanding and minimize controversy among intended audiences.
Writes or edits a range of technical materials, such as reports of research findings; scientific or technical articles, news releases, and periodicals; regulations in technical areas; or technical manuals, specifications, brochures, and pamphlets; speeches or scripts on scientific or technical subjects.

Serves as a liaison, providing expert information and consultation to managers, analysts, and other staff on technical and statistical presentation of information.

Works collaboratively with a highly productive team of analysts and editors to develop, compose, edit and deliver various statistical documents, reports, brochures, manuals, and other documents in support of BJS's mission and objectives.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifying experience for the GS-14 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience that required substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present statistical or technical information. Specialized experience is defined as: managing complex manuals or publication in research, statistics, or academia; editing or writing scientifically material for use of the scientific community, academia, or private industry; developing written technical material as a source of program and policy information; and presenting controversial or scientifically significant information to others, such as Congress, proposed legislation, or reports on research to the academia community.

Veterans Preference
