The following are the duties of this position at the GS-08 . If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Prevent, detect, and investigate violations of laws, rules, and regulations that involve accidents, crimes, misconduct, and security violations.
  • As Bureau law enforcement officers carry the same authority as sheriff or constable in policing the Bureau and designated areas.
  • Required to work on one of three shifts, on a seven-day week basis, providing protection to the nation's producer of United States currency, high value fiduciary instruments, and other types of closely controlled documents.
  • Carry a firearm or other weapons governed by the Office of Security policy on training and weapons qualification required for continued employment with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
  • Police Officers in line and auxiliary operations include such activities as foot. bike, or patrol work, traffic control, post assignment and assistance with investigations.

Physical Requirements:
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. Officer engages in such physical exertions when responding to alarms, pursuing suspects, climbing stairs in office buildings or walking foot patrols in and around large buildings. Incumbent must be physically capable to maintain a state of readiness to perform work that requires running such as would be required in pursuit of fleeing suspects, strength to effectively apprehend and detain uncooperative suspects, lifting and carrying of heavy objects of 50 pounds or less, such as weapons or other specialized equipment. Occasionally some lifting of heavier objects may be necessary.

The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for disqualification in the hiring process. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough. Therefore it is imperative that applicants exercise candor and honesty when answering background questionnaires, especially as it relates to arrest, employment, education, finances, illegal drug use, and/or other criminal history. Falsification discovered in security documents or during the background investigation process may result in an immediate negative suitability determination or immediate revocation of your interim clearance (if applicable).

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the TR-08/GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the TR-07/GS-06 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
experience that provided knowledge of Federal, State or Local Laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques, investigating and resolving incidents and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

For the TR-07/GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the TR-06/GS-05 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
experience that provided knowledge of Federal, State or Local Laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

For the TR-06/GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: A 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. A combination of specialized experience and education in a Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

* Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license upon appointment and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
- Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
- Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
- Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
- Complete or have previously completed the course(s) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.
- Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
- Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
