Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Located at Walter Reed national Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. Responsible for risk management review activities for both inpatient and outpatient care.
Parking at WRNMMC is limited, use of commuting alternates is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clinical and administrative staff and the risk management committee to deliver the risk management program.
  • Responsible for risk management review activities for both inpatient and outpatient care in support of the risk management program.
  • Analyzes medical treatment facility (MTF) data related to risk assessment to identify systemic problems.
  • Provide feedback, based on published national standards of medical treatment that can be used for educational purposes, to reduce or prevent undesired outcomes and financial losses to the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Conduct presentations for senior leadership within the MTF on risk assessment findings.
  • Manage the risk assessment databases, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Develop and maintain a record of data accumulated relative to the risk management program.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for GS-601 series - Risk Assessment Specialist:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: initiating/reviewing standard of care reviews for inpatient and/or outpatient services, such as, systematic data collection, analysis, entry and presentation/display; implementing risk adjusted patient safety process improvement initiatives; and conducting presentations/briefings to senior leaders regarding risk management programs, improvements, enhancements and/or changes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
