This position is located in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Operations Division, Office of Technology and Innovation. The incumbent acts as back-end web developer, writing, compiling, testing, deploying, and maintaining custom source code for CFPB's web applications.

Responsibilities

The following are the duties of this position at the CN-53 (broadly equivalent to the GS-13). If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Writing source code, unit tests, and markup to develop working software.
  • Collaborating with peers, project teams, and Bureau staff to design technical solutions, web applications, and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow for and promote interoperability, flexibility, scalability, and security.
  • Working closely with project teams, T&I, and Bureau divisions to gain an accurate and thorough understanding of the business problem to be solved with technology.
  • Performing market and community research to understand the technical solution space, identifying and defining innovative approaches and solutions, and presenting detailed analysis of research to peers and project teams.

The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

Specialized experience: For the CN-53, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-52grade level in the Federal service (For qualification purposes, the CN-52 is broadly equivalent to the GS-12). Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience developing web-based software and specifications using at least 2 of the following languages: Python, JavaScript, Java, C/C++, Scala, Go, PHP, or Ruby; AND
  • Experience developing and maintaining enterprise web applications with at least 1 of the following modern web frameworks or platforms: Django, Ruby on Rails, React, Vue, Laravel, Node.js, Express; AND
  • Experience leading software projects and communicating technical issues to senior management through oral presentations, written reports, and technical artifacts

Specialized experience: For the CN-52, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-51 grade level in the Federal service (For qualification purposes, the CN-51 is broadly equivalent to the GS-11). Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience developing web-based software and specifications using at least 2 of the following languages: Python, JavaScript, Java, C/C++, Scala, Go, PHP, or Ruby; AND
  • Experience developing web applications with at least 1 of the following web frameworks or platforms: Django, Ruby on Rails, React, Vue, Express, Laravel, Node.js, Express;

Specialized experience: For the CN-51, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-42 grade level in the Federal service (For qualification purposes, the CN-42 is broadly equivalent to the GS-9). Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience developing web-based software and specifications using at least one of the following languages: Python or JavaScript; AND
  • Experience developing web applications with at least 1 of the following modern web frameworks or platforms: Django, Ruby on Rails, React, Vue, Express, Laravel, Node.js, Express;

OR

Education:

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
