The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for a State Advocacy Manager in the Legislative & Political Affairs Department. This position is in our Washington, DC office with some travel to our Linthicum, MD office. In General This position is Assists with the conceptualization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of section and state government relations, advocacy, and legislative activity for the AUA. Oversees and performs the association's state and section grassroots advocacy and manages the American Medical Association House of Delegates. Serves as the point person to assure comprehensive, up-to-date, and accurate tracking of the latest relevant developments in health policy at the state level. Serves as staff liaison for the State Advocacy Committee. Responsible for analysis of the impact of state legislation. In collaboration with other staff, writes articles, position papers, letters, and other communications related to legislative and political activities. Responsible for keeping internal stakeholders and AUA members informed of AUA activities on state advocacy. Assists Legislative & Political Affairs Director in the representation of urologists' interests and in conjunction with a variety of coalitions. Typically The individual in this position will (see position description attachment for all responsibilities): Conceptualizes, creates, develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates the AUA's state legislative agenda, and assumes primary responsibility for briefing the Director and team on the latest state developments of importance. Serves as the lead for the AUA delegation to the AMA House of Delegates. Researches and provides AUA positions on proposed resolutions, or draft proposed resolutions as appropriate. Coordinates with Patient & Research Advocacy and Public Policy as well as any other AUA departments as necessary to provide policy statements to physician delegates. Serves as primary staff liaison for the State Advocacy Committee, which includes providing full logistical support and working internally with AUA Committee Affairs staff to meet governance and bylaw rules. Works closely with the chair and members of the committee to determine, update, and advocate on various policy priorities around the country. In addition, works with the full committee to build an additional network of supporters, particularly in states with a more active urological society. Uses legislative expertise to monitor and research areas at the state and section level relating to urology. Interacts with the AUA sections, state medical societies, and state urological associations. Provides expert guidance to the Legislative & Political Affairs Director and staff concerning issues emerging at the state level that might have national importance.
