The Summit School's Director of Finance & Business Development is an integral part of the senior leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director and assists the Executive Director in her work with the Finance and Facilities Committees of the Board of Directors. This role is responsible for all financial, human resource, and facilities functions of the school. In addition, this role will have the responsibility of spearheading and managing new business development opportunities for the school. About Summit: The Summit School located in Edgewater, MD, serves bright students grades 1-8 with dyslexia and other learning differences. Summit is widely recognized for academic excellence and research-based methodologies delivered in a supportive, collaborative, creative environment. In the next 3-5 years, Summit plans to strategically grow admissions, initiate new lines of business to generate non-tuition income, and construct a new school building. Requirements and Qualifications A bachelor s degree, accounting or finance preferred, MBA a plus A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in strategic and day-to-day financial and operational management, preferably with an educational institution Non-profit experience is a plus but not necessary Knowledge of and experience with human resource practices and policies and experience with facility management A strategic thinker with proven success in a management role A team player who promotes a strong sense of community, is flexible in managing unexpected changes, and exemplifies Summit s core values Ability to set priorities, organize, analyze, work independently, meet deadlines, problem solve, initiate business practice innovations, and multi-task Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with multiple constituencies, such as faculty, administrators, volunteers, parents, students, board members, and contract workers Advanced understanding of computers and technology, including Microsoft Windows, Office Products, QuickBooks, and Google platform Must pass necessary background checks How to Apply: Please submit a letter of application along with your resume to the Executive Director at @thesummitschool.org. Job Type: Full-time Job Requirements: Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manages the finance and accounting function, including Accounts Payable/Receivable, grants, and investment, to ensure strong internal controls, the production of timely, accurate financial reports, and clear analysis of Summit s financial position. Prepares the annual budget, schedules for the annual external audit, tracks gift reporting, and supports the determination and distribution of financial aid. Conducts and coordinates long-range planning, facilities planning, negotiating with contractors, vendors, and governmental entities, within established guidelines. Manages high-level operations on a multi-building campus, managing maintenance staff to ensure that clean, safe, well-maintained and efficiently operated buildings. Updates and maintains confidential personnel files, and in-processes new employees. Stays current on new human resources and education personnel legislation and compliance requirements. Ensures that human resource policies and practices are clearly articulated and consistently applied. Negotiates and administers employee benefit programs to include health care, group insurance, and retirement fund. Integrates technology into the Summit s operations and business office to optimize effectiveness and allow for accurate, timely analysis, tracking, and reporting of operational data, including enrollment. Works with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to define Summit s business and financial objectives and ensure that they are met in an effective, timely manner. Develops and maintains strong, collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff and parents, and cultivates an ethic of high-quality customer service among staff members. Collaborates with peers at other independent schools across the state and the nation and participates in professional organizations/meetings to share best practices and to stay abreast of relevant topics and trends in the field.
