An Overview
The Therapist Supervisor provides supervision to the Intake team. Conducts clinical Intake evaluations for consumers seeking mental health, substance abuse, and mental retardation services. Supervises the work of other Intake therapists and case managers. Responsible for coordinating referrals to department programs/services. Acts as the team coordinator and collaborates with other community agencies for mental health, substance abuse, developmental disability services.

What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate must have thorough knowledge of behavioral health disorders and the ability to provide a diagnosis using the DSM-5. The incumbent will also have good knowledge of psychopharmacology, psychiatric disorders, substance use disorders, and/or elderly and aging issues. They will also have the ability to work successfully with a variety of consumers and be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing with other professionals and with the public.

Example of Duties
  • Provides supervision to clinical Intake Therapists and Intake Assistant/Case Management staff members including regular reviews of cases in order to monitor consumer progress and to assist staff in offering sound and appropriate services;
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees for the purpose of representing the Intake Team within agency and the community at large;
  • Conducts clinical Intakes and formulates assessments, evaluations, and differential diagnoses and treatment plans for mental health, substance abuse, and mental retardation consumers;
  • Completes written assessments;
  • Initiates medical, psychiatric, and psychological treatment referrals as needed;
  • Maintains and prepares written reports and statistics as necessary to monitor progress and trends in Intake service delivery;
  • Prepares reports for court proceedings, represents the Department, and testifies as an expert witness on behalf of consumers;
  • Participates in staff development and training;
  • Provides backup support for Emergency Services;
  • Assures all consumer services are provided and documented in accordance with Federal, State, and program guidelines;
  • Maintains clinical records in accordance with Departmental, City, State, and Federal ompliancequirements;
  • Assists in the hiring and training of Intake staff;
  • Performs related work as required.

The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Master's degree in Human Services; two years post-graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to clients having psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders; at least two years post-master's experience providing diagnostic evaluations, assessments, and crisis intervention. Licensed or license eligible (has completed all required education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, the employee must obtain Virginia license at the first available opportunity, but no later than one year after appointment. Good driving record/background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist in the state of Virginia. At least two years of post graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to consumers having psychiatric, emotional and substance abuse disorders; At least one year of experience providing diagnostic evaluations, assessments and emergency services to include assessment for hospitalizations and pre-screens for detentions; At least one year of experience providing clinical and/or administrative supervision in a program setting; Fluent and Bilingual in both English and Spanish.

Notes

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver’s license.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM with at least one evening on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, until 9:00PM.
