Summary

The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) plays a critical role in facilitating regional economic development efforts in communities across the nation. EDA is seeking quality job applicants under special hiring authority provided under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. These positions are located in our Headquarters Office.

Responsibilities

The incumbent of this position will serve as a Graphic Designer:
  • Developing, coordinating and/or implementing comprehensive graphics and creative direction.
  • Researching, designing, selecting and producing visual information material;
  • Collaborating with social media and web teams to design digital assets for the agency's website;
  • Creating infographics, booklets, website content, informational brochures, and other documents for public and internal use;
  • Creating design media to include video, slides, websites and multimedia presentations; and
  • Developing and supporting special project needs (i.e., graphic designing, authoring Vector graphics and video development);

Qualifications

Qualification requirements in this vacancy announcement are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualifications available on the OPM's website located at: https//www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/ .

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Americorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. Experience for this position includes:
  • Providing creative direction and developing abstract designs, booklets, brochures, posters, composition, website visuals and infographics; and
  • Producing visual information material, graphics and short videos using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe DC; and
  • Utilizing various printing processes to prepare camera-ready art-work for reproduction.

Additional information

Background Investigation: This position is designated as Non-sensitive/Low Risk and requires that a background investigation be conducted and favorably adjudicated in order to establish security eligibility.

Please note this position is being filled under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Employees will be hired under EDA's CARES Hiring Authority as a Schedule A employee under the Excepted Service for a period not-to-exceed two (2) years.
