Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Supervisor for the Field Operations Division, which includes interment operations, grave site and headstone maintenance, and preservation of designated special areas at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC).
  • Manage a variety positions to include Cemetery Caretakers, Engineering Equipment Operators, Motor Vehicle Operators, and Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics through subordinate supervisors to accomplish the mission of the Field Operations Division.
  • Develop long-range plans for manpower, material, life cycle management for equipment, supplies for various administrative purposes, and all other items that impact the operating budget of the Field Operations Division.
  • Maintain balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations.
  • Provide oversight for four interment teams, conducting interments as well as maintaining burial sections for ANC.
  • Responsible for safely and accurately completing over 7000 interments annually for our nation?s active duty service members, Veterans and eligible family members.
  • Ensure the appearance and drivable conditions of 24 miles of road way, maintenance of the President Kennedy and President Taft gravesites and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Field Operations Supervisor without more than normal supervision: managing an outside operations division through subordinate supervisors; laying out burial and grave sites within burial sections; overseeing the lifecycle management of a division's equipment. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Sometimes works on the top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Does strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and lifting services.

Work Conditions: Works both inside and outside. Inside, is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures and noise. Outside, may sometimes work in bad weather, in mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas. Is frequently exposed to irritation and discomfort from dust, heat, fumes and hard damp floors or ground. Typically works on parts and systems which are dirty, oily or greasy. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises and sprains while preparing, positioning and moving equipment. Is often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritation from acid, fluids, and lubricants. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as ear plugs, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be used or worn for long periods of time.
