Summary

This position is located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG) Office of Audit (OA). The Treasury OIG provides independent oversight of the Department and all of its bureaus except the Internal Revenue Service and activities related to the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Audit Advisor, you will:
  • Guide the Assistant Inspector General for Audit (AIGA) in setting office-wide audit policy and procedures that conform to Government Auditing Standards and other professional standards as applicable.
  • Serve with/or as the AIGA's audit liaison on the Federal Audit Executive Council's (FAEC) standing committees (i.e. audit policy and procedure, information technology, professional development, et al.) and Government Accountability Office (GAO) task forces to coordinate agency-wide audits and projects and provide technical input to updates to Government Auditing Standards, Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency's (CIGIE) Standards for Inspections and Evaluations, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) audit and audit-related guidance, and other statutory, regulatory, and professional requirements.
  • Analyze program and operations within our jurisdictional oversight, as well as proposed or newly implemented legislation, changes in auditing and accounting standards, and emerging risks in order to identify advise on the direction, scope, and allocation of resources for the Office of Audit (OA).

Specialized experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Managing performance audits; AND
  • Presenting findings in both oral and written format to successfully defend audit outcomes and to defend unpopular or controversial recommendations.

NOTE: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

Education

Education Requirements:

A. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
  • A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
  • Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.

  • The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
