Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Westat is seeking an experienced Editor to join its Editorial team. The successful candidate will work on client deliverables such as research study reports, manuals, and web content, as well as proposals, and internal and external communication products. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Editing, proofreading, and fact-checking for accuracy, consistency, and conformity to style and tone across print, web, and multimedia platforms.
• Correcting grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.
• Understanding and implementing client style guides for identity guidelines, usage, and formatting.
• Reviewing a wide variety of products across several research topics, including health, social policy, and education, and targeted to different audiences. 
• Applying plain language principles and writing for the web best practices.
• Working collaboratively with materials development teams on large projects to schedule and perform editorial tasks.
• Participating in meetings with project teams and clients.

Required qualifications:
• A BA in English, communications, or a related discipline. 
• A minimum of 5 years of copyediting and production editing experience.

Preferred qualifications;
• Experience using a variety of style manuals (e.g., GPO, Chicago, APA) as well as the ability to learn and apply other client styles.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
 • Experience working with teams of authors, editors, graphic designers, and production specialists.

Strong candidates will have demonstrated time management and organization skills with the ability to multitask and work under pressure as well as meet tight deadlines.  Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
