Job Announcement

Operates a variety of medium and light equipment, including a tandem-axle dump truck, single-axle dump truck, backhoe, road roller, skid-steer loader, compressed air tools, etc., in all phases of stormwater infrastructure and road construction (e.g., scarifying, blading, compaction, equipment transport, excavations, etc.). Conducts daily inspection, routine maintenance, and light repair on such equipment. Performs a variety of manual labor tasks, such as digging, loading, snow shoveling, grass cutting, asphalt leveling and raking, brush removal, lifting, pushing, and other heavy physical work. Ensures that appropriate safety procedures are followed when operating and working near medium/small equipment. Duties are performed under supervision.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and, two years of experience in the operation of medium/light motorized equipment.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • A commercial driver's license (CDL) Class "B" or higher
  • Tanker Endorsement (Within 12 months of hire)
  • Appointee must obtain Class A designation within three months


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position must complete a medical examination and a criminal background investigation to the satisfaction of the employer prior to starting work. The appointee to this position will be required to participate in emergency callback staffing that is subject to occur twenty-four hours a day/seven days a week (24/7) and may periodically require working 12- to 18-hour shifts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of work experience operating a truck and equipment. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans for utility location prior to excavation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must be physically and mentally capable of performing confined space entry operations via 21" manholes with vertical descent using integral or portable ladders further requiring use of all applicable protective equipment and documentation. Ability to pass pre-employment physicals. Performs duties to include pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, walking, climbing in and out of catch basins and manholes (with assistance, includes removal and replacement of manhole covers weighing up to 90 pounds). All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
