Children's National Hospital is seeking an Pharmacy Specialist with IV/Chemo Infusion experience for a full time assignment at their new location in Prince Georges County. Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Operations Supervisor or the Manager of Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Specialist will prepares IV admixture solutions accurately, with the highest quality possible, and in a timely manner for patients. The Pharmacy Specialist will also participates in any other duties related to the dispensing of medications for which the job may require.

• Reports to the Pharmacy Operations Supervisor.
• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must have Maryland license & national certification (PTCB)
• Prepares IV admixtures as required.
• Follows techniques and policies to ensure quality of products and personal safety.
• Cleans equipment and work area to maintain an aseptic work environment.
• Maintains the necessary supplies for the amount of compounding work scheduled for the day.
• Removes trash and cleans preparation room according to the policies and procedures.
• Unpacks and stocks supplies in the appropriate storage areas; restocks drug cart daily.
• Relieves pharmacy inventory for the computer once medications have been delivered to patients.
• Completion of an external pharmacy technician training program is desirable.
• Maryland Pharmacy Tech license is required. Six (6) months experience in the last three years as a home infusion or hospital technician required.
• Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics
• Knowledge of sterile technique and demonstrates aseptic technique proficiency Knowledge of infusion nomenclature Knowledge for the safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy Familiar with equipment and supplies
• Ability to calibrate and use equipment to make IV
• Ability to work with computers for data entry and manipulation
• Ability to change from one work project to another quickly as required by the workload
• Ability to do high volume of work with few or no errors
• Ability to keep good records for all work performed
• Works well in isolation on tasks requiring patience and thoroughness
• Works within the limits of technical practice; practices self-supervision and is self-starter
• Practices teamwork both within the pharmacy department and with the internal customs of Children's National Hospital
• Prepares CHEMO admixtures as required.
• Provide Nursing Education to staff
• Assist in PYXIS optimization and device troubleshooting
• Informatics Responsibilities including assistance in maintain drug libraries
• Medication Reconciliation and compiling of medication histories
• Participation in tech- check-tech
• Controlled Substance discrepancy review and reconciliation
• Management of barcode scanning and administration databases
• Assisting with assessing charges, credits and revenue reconciliation
• Must complete DOT Training for hazardous waste pick up and sign off
• Other assigned duties


Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associate's Degree - Science related field and 1 year of hospital experience as a hospital Pharmacy Technician (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
3 years - Experience in a hospital (Required)

1 year - Experience in pediatric setting as a pharmacy technician is preferred (Preferred)

2 years - Chemotherapy/ IV admixture compounding (Required)

3 years - Experience with the maintenance of automated dispensing cabinets (Preferred)

4. Fill, sort and deliver medication orders in a timely and efficient manner

6. Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; this may include using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and being able to compute rate, ratio, and percent
7. Strong time management and organizational skills

2. Able to effectively present information to the patient and in small group situations
