Job Description

The Washington Post Editorial Department is looking for a versatile part-time multiplatform editor who enjoys dealing with a variety of subjects and can satisfy our wide-ranging responsibilities.

The Editorial copy desk handles all types of opinion journalism -- from syndicated columns, to letters to the editor, to editorials, to long-form essays -- preparing them for publication in print and online. We then go beyond traditional copy-editing duties by designing and publishing our own print pages (21 per week) and handling our own Web production.

The successful candidate for this position should be able to shift among these roles, always with a bias toward prioritizing online publication. She or he will have outstanding editing skills and a knack for writing lively, engaging headlines, especially those that work well for search and social media. A keen interest in politics and policy -- Editorial's bread and butter -- is highly useful.

The hours for this position will rotate, but initially will consist of evening hours, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Other hours, include daytime and, on a rotation, weekends and holidays, will also be a part of the mix. (Our desk is staffed 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and reduced hours on weekends.)

The innovation doesn't end in the Newsroom - dozens of teams power The Washington Post. We are now hiring the next innovator - how will you Impact Tomorrow?
