Job Details

Dewberry is seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Manager to support its Alternative Project Delivery contracts and pursuits throughout the enterprise. The position requires the individual to work closely and develop good working relationships with client contractors and owners externally, and all internal stakeholders by establishing routine, professional communications, both verbally and in writing. The successful candidate will be required to have collaborative and daily interaction with these individuals, including program staff, legal, and contracts/subcontracts/procurement/finance and billing team members, as we strive to have a very collaborative working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate complex contracts in a time-sensitive environment, with a focus on Design-Build and EPC projects. Draw upon broad engineering and construction industry experience to identify risks and contractual terms not conforming to Company policy and work to develop risk-mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities for specific projects (e.g. risk assessment, bid/no bid analysis, etc.).
  • Analyze legal matters arising in connection with project pursuits, or project execution, and provide advice and counsel based upon research and acquired legal experience.
  • Serve as point of contact for customers both internal and external regarding contractual matters.
  • Act as advisor regarding legal requirements, customer specifications, and government regulations to management and others.
  • Ensure compliance with Dewberry company policies and procedures
  • Review and negotiate terms and conditions of different types of contractual agreements - e.g. Non-Disclosure, Teaming and Subcontract agreements, Joint Venture Agreements to ensure compliance with established legal policies and standards as well as Company policies.
  • Advise management on contractual rights and obligations and interpret terms and conditions.
  • Provide contract expertise to Program Teams for change order and claims management


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BA/BS plus minimum 10 years relevant experience.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills, effective written and oral communication skills, effective negotiation skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must understand the broader impact of proposed or awarded work and contract terms on the company, be able to identify and resolve contract issues with guidance as necessary and advise program staff and management of contractual rights and obligations.
  • Applicant must have a strong working knowledge of business practices in the engineering and construction industries.
  • Ability to directly and professionally interact and negotiate with government acquisitions personnel and teaming partner personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues and problems on assigned contracts and make independent recommendations to direct supervisor(s), program staff, and business unit management.

Desired/Preferred Additional Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree is preferred;
  • Applicant must have current/previous experience in the contracts, or legal, department of an engineering or construction company working under the Alternative Project Delivery method.
  • Familiarity with state and local government contracting practices is desired, familiarity with federal government contracts is a plus.
