Assistant Director, Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC)

The George Mason University Mason Enterprise Center (Community Business Partnership) invites applications for an Assistant Director, VBOC position. The Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) is sponsored by the Small Business Administration (SBA) through the George Mason University (GMU) Community Business Partnership (CBP). The CBP is an independent not-for-profit organization that is part of GMU Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development. CBP's mission is to serve as a complete resource center providing training, counseling and other entrepreneurial support to those seeking to build and sustain successful small businesses.

The CBP hosts a VBOC, a Women Business Center (WBC), a Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a Business Finance Center (BFC), and a Community Development Financial Institute (CDFI) in a single location. The CBP delivers entrepreneurial skills training to over 4,000 clients per year and provides specialized support services, including one-on-one counseling services, networking events, three small business conferences annually, extensive referral network, small business incubator services, and access to capital. Within the context of the CBP mission, the VBOC serves the veteran small business community for the National Capital Region (NCR). The NCR is estimated to include over 1.4 million veterans.

Responsibilities: The Assistant VBOC Director reports directly to the VBOC Director and provides training, counseling, mentoring and outreach services to a diverse military community client base (including Veterans, active duty, National Guard, Reservists and spouses) and apply sound business management principles, practices and techniques to the organization. Under the direction of the VBOD Director, the Assistant Director assists new business startups and business expansions in the National Capital Region (NCR) to grow and prosper. The NCR includes Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. In coordination with the VBOC Director, the Assistant Director oversees delivery of training to include the Boots-to-Business (B2B) and Boots-to-Business Reboot (B2BR) programs. The Assistant VBOC Director represents the VBOC at regional professional events and associations; and work with the other directors and management of the CBP to advance the cause of small business in general and veteran -owned businesses more specifically. Additional responsibilities include counseling and mentoring of entrepreneurs.

This is a grant-funded position contingent upon continued availability of grant funds. The VBOC at the Community Business Partnership is a partnership program of the U.S. Small Business Administration, George Mason University, Mason Enterprise Center in the Office of Research and Economic Development.

Duties: * Oversee and deliver in-person and virtual B2B and B2BR training programs in the NCR; * Serve as main point of contact for coordination of training events with Department of Defense (DOD) Transition Assistance Program (TAP) managers within the NCR; * Under the direction of the VBOC Director, coordinate with other Veteran's organization around the region and explore partnership opportunities as appropriate; * Execute programmatic activities to reach VBOC milestones and objectives; * Assist in the planning and execution of CBP-sponsored business conferences; * Plan and deliver B2B Train-the-Trainers for the VBOC; * Assist in the management and recruitment of professional volunteers to assist with counseling and training activities; * Perform business assessments for small businesses and entrepreneurs to determine their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT); * Maintain the B2B Neoserra Database; * Execute LivePlan referrals; * Encourage client participation in the Revenue Readiness follow-on to B2B training; * Assist in the recruitment of sponsors for VBOC events; * Develop, plan, implement and lead veteran-relevant educational programs; * Participate in outreach assistance programs; * Provide counseling assistance to small and medium-sized businesses in areas such as marketing, management, finance, planning, accounting, international management, technological assistance and government procurement; * Refer clients, as needed, to other resource partners such as Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), Women Business Centers (WBCs), Business Finance Centers (BFC), Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), and Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC); * Market the VBOC program on local, state and regional levels; * Assist in the measurement and evaluation of the impact of program delivery and synthesize/analyze information in professional reports as directed; * Work in coordination with CBP's other programs to strengthen and promote the organization; * Attend VBOC mandatory conference calls, professional development conferences and network- wide initiatives as required; * Maintain professional competency by participating in professional development programs and/or completing annual refresher courses and training as required; * Perform ad hoc duties as may be required to ensure the success of the VBOC.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in accounting, business administration, management and/or public policy or other relevant field of study; * Experience in small business development/counseling; * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; * Public speaking experience; * Experience in curriculum development, counseling, training and virtual/eLearning experience; * Experience in Leadership coaching, change management, risk management, and leadership development experience.

Preferred Qualifications: * Veteran/Veteran Spouse; * Bilingual in English and Spanish.
