Term Assistant Professor

The George Mason University Higher Education Program (HEP) invites applications for a term assistant professor (non-tenure track, teaching focused) position. This is a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment to ideally begin in January 2021. HEP and George Mason University:

The Higher Education Program (HEP), located within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), prepares students for positions of leadership in teaching, research, and administration at two-year and four-year colleges and universities around the world, as well as for positions in associations, government agencies, and industries whose activities relate to or impact higher education. The interdisciplinary, graduate-level curriculum focuses on leadership, the scholarship of teaching and learning, student affairs, administration, technology, and assessment. The program offers a master's degree in higher education and student development and a PhD degree in education. Term faculty in HEP are eligible for promotion including multi-year contractual commitments.

Responsibilities:

HEP is seeking a collaborative, dedicated, and student-centered colleague who will: * Teach graduate-level coursework in the Higher Education Program at a 4/4 load with course reductions for administrative responsibilities typically resulting in a 3/3 or 3/2 teaching load; * Assist with other administrative and program duties such as, but not limited to, advising students, program development, internship/practicum supervision, or committee work; * Teach, support, and advise graduate students in preparation for careers in higher education and student affairs; serve on departmental, college, and university committees; * Actively engage in regional and national professional associations.

Required Qualifications: * The candidate must hold a doctorate degree in higher education or a related field to be completed by the start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in graduate-level teaching; * Experience as a higher education or student affairs professional; * Demonstrated commitment to justice and equity, including experience working with adult and returning students, historically underrepresented student population, first-generation college students, and international graduate students; * Commitment to mentoring students through teaching, advising, and additional supports; * Active involvement in relevant higher education professional associations; * Collaborative nature and willing to work across disciplines and ideologies.
