Summary

Directs implementation of $10 million social impact investment portfolio and manages business case processes, acquisition evaluator, debt structure and other key investment projects for the AARP Foundation (Foundation) which has a $220 million annual budget and $500M investment portfolio. Coordinates with cross-functional leaders in programs and grants to maximize social return on investment to more effectively serve the vulnerable 50+. Effectively builds a comprehensive external impact investing network and the positions is the "go to" subject matter expert on impact investing. Prepares reports on impact investments and other key projects for the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. Serves as a key contact with AARP Treasury to provide input and oversight. Supports the Foundation Impact Investment Committee and is the primary contact for AARP Foundation's social impact investments portfolio
Responsibilities
  1. Develops and manages the complete impact investment strategy, from creation to execution, with an emphasis on achieving impact at scale in support of the Foundation's strategic plan outcome goals. Monitors compliance and oversight of all social impact investments.


  1. Establishes and maintains compliance with Endowment Management guidelines in collaboration with Development


  1. Prepares reports, commentary, and analysis to the Foundation leadership team on impact investment planned outputs and actual results.


  1. Evaluates and advises on various key functions of the Foundation, including cash management, acquisitions, debt structure, capital projects, grant investments, and other alternate investment activities.


  1. Works with AARP Treasury to ensure Foundation investments are managed in accordance with the investment policy and identifies potential new AARP Foundation investments, particularly alternative investments that complement our mission.


  1. Makes suggestions and recommendations for improvements to policy, processes, and procedures that would enhance the coordination and effectiveness of grant making and impact investing.


  1. Exercises strong analytical and collaborative skills in managing key high level projects and business cases /decision making tools to advise leadership.


  1. Ensures the establishment and implementation of best-of-class business policies and procedures, monitoring compliance, as well as working with the appropriate department(s) to identify new process improvement opportunities.


  1. Builds a comprehensive external network with leaders in the impact investing space to stay on top of key trends, new opportunities, and identify potential partnerships.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Completion of an advanced degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration

10 or more years' experience in corporate finance, business economics, or investments

Excellent interpersonal and team building skills. Ability to build strong relationships throughout AARP, AARP Foundation, as well as with key external partners.

Experience managing a diverse investment portfolio, including endowments, alternatives, program- and mission-related investments, and social impact equity investments.

Experience developing and evaluating businesses cases as well as presenting decision analysis recommendations to Leadership.

Depth of understanding of non-profits, charitable fundraising, and ability to make sound financial business decisions based on that thorough understanding.

Strong analytical skills, combined with strategic planning experience is essential.

Excellent organizational skills. Able to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and to consistently meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail.
