Term Assistant Professor of Japanese

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University (Fairfax, VA campus) invites applications for a term assistant professor in Japanese, beginning in August 2020, renewable yearly depending on budgetary approval and satisfactory performance. The position includes a full range of benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities include Japanese literature and culture courses taught in English with an interdisciplinary emphasis in popular culture such as manga/anime studies, cultural studies, film and/or literary studies depending on the candidate's area(s) of specialization as well as Japanese language courses at all levels. The teaching load is 12 credit hours (four courses) per semester.

Required Qualifications: * Candidates should be fluent in Japanese and English with a Ph.D. in Japanese or relevant field; * Experience in curriculum and program development, and a commitment to excellence in teaching both language courses and courses within their specialization.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in online instruction and undergraduate student advising and mentoring.
