George Mason University's Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Education and LGBTQ+ Resources is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person to fill the Assistant Director for Student Engagement for Racial Justice (SERJ). This position is a vital member of the SERJ team within the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Education and LGBTQ+ Resources.

About the Position: The Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Racial Justice (for Hispanic/Latinx and Southwest Asian/North African (SWANA)) is responsible for the planning and management of student focused programs and initiatives that have a specific charge towards racial and ethnic development, affirmation, and support. This position reports to the Associate Director for Student Engagement and Racial Justice.

The Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Racial Justice (for Hispanic/Latinx and Southwest Asian/North African(SWANA)) is also expected to maintain active in the engagement of students on campus relevant to the below constituency groups and includes, but is not limited to, benchmarking, identifying trends in literature, and advocacy as relevant and appropriate to specific racial and ethnic constituency groups to aid in their success.

Primary Responsibilities: * Support and advise the following student populations: ** Hispanic/Latinx ** Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) * Provide advising and liaison support to identity-based groups within the above student populations (e.g., Hispanic Latino Leadership Alliance, Afghan Student Union, Egyptian Student Union). Support includes adequate advising for organizations and individuals, workshops, retreats, and as appropriate, referral to specific student services (e.g., Career Center, Counseling Center, Student Involvement). * Engage in a programming portfolio that includes the following: ** Coordinate Hispanic Heritage and SWANA Heritage Month Calendar ** Bienvenida Latina ** Graduation Celebrations for Hispanic/Latinx and SWANA * Develop annual program outcomes, evaluations, and annual reporting for above-stated programs, including relevant national, local, and campus-wide trends and needs for identified student populations. * Assist in the community building and development of identity-based alumni and faculty and staff networks to support students more broadly. * As a member of the SERJ team, serve on a rotation of leadership to chair the MLK Evening of Reflection Committee. * As a member of the department, provide direct support for students from other underrepresented identities in higher education, included but not limited to, students who are first-generation, racial and ethnic heritage identities who constitute a minority, and gender and sexual orientations, represented in the multicultural and intersecting identities college students possess. Preparation to support these students include training required of all staff within the department. * Manage the budget for programs included in the above portfolios and staffing, to include purchase of programming supplies, monitor of work hours for supervised staff, as well as responsible management of funds. Included in budget management is to seek opportunities for external funding outside of the department from University Life, George Mason University opportunities, as well as those beyond the institution to expand and support work as relevant and approved by supervisor. * Serve on the departmental professional staff team. Attend staff meetings, small team meetings, large area meetings, and other meetings as assigned. Attend departmental signature events. Gain and maintain overall knowledge of our department, University Life, and George Mason University. * Serve on University Life and University-wide committees, to include search committees, as assigned/approved by Supervisor. * Other duties as assigned by supervisor/director.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or related field and previous higher education experience. The ability to engage diverse communities in problem-solving strategies, interpersonal and/or group conflict resolution skills. A commitment to student leadership development and learning through programming. The ability to apply qualitative and quantitative assessment protocol.

Preferred Qualifications: 1-2 years of experience with programming direct and student support for underrepresented students.
