Department of Mechanical Engineering Tenure-Track Faculty Position
The George Mason University Department of Mechanical Engineering, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2020. Senior candidates with established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching will be eligible for tenured Associate Professor or Professor positions. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment to apply.
Responsibilities: Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an independent, externally funded research program; advise students; participate in all aspects of the department's mission; and serve the profession.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field by the start date of the position, and should have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants in all areas of controls engineering will be given serious consideration. We are particularly interested in candidates who have expertise in the areas of controls engineering, robotics, mechatronics, novel actuator and sensor technology, bio-robotics and bio-instrumentation, control of complex systems, precision instrumentation, autonomous robotic vehicle, and optics.
About the Department: The Department of Mechanical Engineering currently offers both a BS degree and a minor in Mechanical Engineering, and offers a Mechanical Engineering concentration through the School-wide PhD in Information Technology. The department is also in the process of seeking approval from the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) to establish the PhD program. In addition, the department received accreditation from Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, retroactive to October 1, 2015.
