Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a dynamic and self‐motivated tax intern interested in gaining
practical experience as a tax department contributor. The purchase of The Washington Post by Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, has propelled the company into the elite set of US digital publishers. In 2018, Fast Company included The Washington Post in its list of the top 10 Most Innovative Companies in the World, and in 2017 The Washington Post was named the Hottest Digital Publisher in News by Adweek. Along with the robust investment and record‐breaking growth in digital revenue, traffic, and subscriptions comes the responsibility of accurately and timely complying with increasing Federal and state tax reporting requirements. You will be part of a team charged with this task; using modern tax compliance technology (OneSource), research tools, and technical accounting and tax knowledge combined with comprehensive judgment to identify and solve technical tax and compliance issues.

Tax compliance is a deadline driven process. A strong candidate in this position must be organized, possess a sense of urgency, and be able to communicate with internal departments as well as external vendors to correctly prepare tax returns. Strong Excel skills are also essential for this role as all of the return data is aggregated in Excel prior to migrating to the tax software.

The position's responsibilities will include utilizing Excel capabilities to automate tax
calculations, preparing Federal and state income tax returns using OneSource tax software, and reviewing tax return drafts for correctness. Responsibilities may also include ad hoc tax research and analysis projects on various tax topics.

This internship is approximately 10 weeks and is located in Washington, DC.

Eligibility
You must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or graduate degree, with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.
