Chief Broadcast Engineer
Job Announcement
The largest and leading public access station in the Nation's Capital seeks a highly skilled, results-oriented Chief Broadcast Engineer to lead a talented engineering team supporting HD television studios, digital radio studios, training operations and channel play-out across multiple systems. Fairfax Public Access supports, educates, entertains and informs a rich diversity of viewers and listeners with programming cablecast across 14 different languages. With a dedicated staff and vibrant volunteer core, FPA is a beacon of free speech and community engagement in the DC metro region and nationally.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for design, installation, upgrade, maintenance and technical support of three HD TV Studios, two radio studios, four channel master control operations, training and duplication facilities.
- Maintain system documentation to include CAD signal flow, installation and operation instructions along with service reports.
- Management, scheduling and support of Broadcast Engineer team including organizing, and participating in weekend and on-call engineering support.
- Responsible for monitoring multiple air channels and assuring quality of on-air product.
- Engineering support for live programming, channel play-out, and production staff operations.
- Keeping current on new technologies and providing recommendations on new systems which solve workflow problems or improve performance.
- Understanding and familiarity with IT network systems in the support of video, transport, channel play-out and file-based workflows.
- Proven track record of accurately assessing project goals and tailoring outcomes to meet stakeholder needs
- Determines, specifies and recommends operational purchase requirements.
- Demonstrate success in capital planning, budgeting and personnel management.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
- A minimum of five years of television engineering or related experience
- Supervisory experience
- Society of Broadcast Engineers or other industry certifications
Familiarity with the following professional video & IT systems preferred:
- Ross Video switchers, graphic systems and terminal gear
- NewTek Tricaster including NDI and Skype TX
- Grass Valley multiformat routings, multiviewers and playout systems
- HPE network switches and routers (IP, WiFi, fiber, VLANS, SNMP)
- Apple OS and Xsan storage systems
- Adobe Creative Cloud suite and management
Compensation:
- Base salary commensurate with experience, plus employer match of 5% of salary to 401(k) plan, plus outstanding benefits, plus possible substantial bonuses (which last year exceeded $10,000)
