Summary

Joining the Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations, Presidential Protective Division, White House Operations Branch will allow you to utilize personnel security automated systems, law enforcement agencies, and personnel to determine the right of entry for pass holders, visitors, contract workers, media, and couriers requesting access. This Security Specialist (Access Control) position starts at a salary of $57,510 (GS-9 step 1), with promotion potential to $90,461 (GS-11 step 10).

Responsibilities

The selectee will serve as a Security Specialist (Access Control) in the Office of Protective Operations, Presidential Protective Division, White House Operations Branch. Typical work assignments include:
  • Receiving and verifying access request forms to ensure all basic required information is provided; and following administrative procedures associated with the handling of classified documents to include responsibility for reporting violations of administrative security.
  • Researching and submitting background investigative data for review and interpretation of information.
  • Contacting and interacting with pass holders in a professional manner to resolve incomplete or conflicting data submitted on clearance request forms; preparing summary of derogatory information found during name checks and notifying the proper authority within the branch; evaluating the nature and degree of derogatory information and making recommendations as to the security risk posed; and generating various access control reports.
  • Conducting background investigations by accessing various personnel security and law enforcement automated databases and systems; and electronically capturing fingerprints using Live Scan technology.

Qualifications

GS-9: You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $57,510) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing duties such as: reviewing access request forms; compiling, analyzing and evaluating investigative data, recommending course of actions as it relates to potential security risk; conducting background checks by assessing law enforcement automated databases and systems; and executing the daily operations of a federal credentialing office and understanding the regulations policies associated with HSPD-12 credentialing operations. OR

Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related OR

A combination of graduate level education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $69,581) if you possess on year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties such as: reviewing access request forms; compiling, analyzing and evaluating investigative data, evaluate the derogatory information and making recommendations as to the security risk posed; recommending course of actions as it relates to potential security risks; conducting background checks by assessing law enforcement automated databases and systems; and executing the daily operations of a Federal credentialing office and understanding the regulations and policies associated with HSPD-12 credentialing operations. OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related OR

A combination of graduate level education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.
