The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts ("The Kennedy Center"), which opened on September 8, 1971, is located on 17 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Job Description:

The Concessions Supervisor coordinates concessions staff for all arts-related events occurring days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. They will ensure a high degree of customer service demonstrating patience and professionalism. They will demonstrate an understanding of concessions as part of Retail Operations and sets an example of how good working relationships lead to a smoothly run department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

20% Supervises, coordinates, and informs the retail sales associates assigned to concessions.

15% Oversees staff training and education; delegates job duties as necessary.

15% Oversees reconciliation of cash with sales; carries out contracts, reconciles merchandise, and money for pass-through system.

15% Keeps sales records, concessions merchandise with money calendars, "sound scan" records and any reports required by retail operations.

10% Places candy and sundry orders and reports and manages merchandise and candy inventory levels in all appropriate venues. Delegates candy cart building; requests physical cart maintenance as needed.

10% Creates special event merchandise carts and display tables, Pop-up Shops and Trunk Show displays to include product signage, working in coordination with Retail Operations team members as needed.

10% Verifies and counts pass-through merchandise; prepares appropriate paperwork. ​

5% Maintains contact with fiscal manager to assure timely coordination of merchandise.

N/A Responds to the needs and requests of Kennedy Center management and staff in a professional and expedient manner; Adheres to all employer policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2-3 years of retail experience in a fast-paced, high-volume retail business
  • Supervisory, training & hiring experience, handle money with accuracy, data management (spreadsheets, data entry)
  • Knowledge of POS Inventory Management systems and experience setting-up, using and managing iPads and Square
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and adapt easily to change.
  • Familiarity with the performing arts


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

  • The KC schedule is fast-paced with multiple, high-capacity events often occurring simultaneously.
