Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through the discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS and emerging infectious diseases. The Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of biomedical informatics and data science by developing and applying world leading data science and computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and employing leading-edge software and data science to effectively enable and advance clinical trials. The Strategic and Data Science Initiative (SDSI) program as part of BIDS works collaboratively with the NCI Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) and among the NCI, NIH, government, industry and academic partners to accelerate strategic advances in the development and application of data science, data management, computational and predictive approaches to biomedical research. The program leads innovative efforts to accelerate biomedical research including application of AI, extended use of high-performance computing, utilizing data science education to build communities of practice, and developing novel and sustainable collaborations across the NCI, NIH, government, industry, academia both nationally and internationally. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES Provide coordination of communications for collaborative initiatives including the Joint Design of Advanced Computing Solutions for Cancer (JDACS4C) and collaborative NCI-DOE efforts as they support development of the CBIIT Scientific Computing program. Work with the federal, SDSI and BIDS team leads, participate in meetings with stakeholders, make recommendations for strategic communication, and create a range of written materials including meeting presentation decks, web site and wiki updates, and communication project plans Coordinate communications activities with collaborating organizations Work with SDSI managers to provide leadership and collaborative development of reporting processes and tools Provide for timely and accurate delivery of communication products and messaging for collaborative projects Support, gather and develop information necessary to meet reporting requirements Provide logistics support for meetings and workshops, including development and delivery of communication materials such as meeting invitations, agendas, website posts and content updates, follow-up with attendees Review and edit content prepared by others, as appropriate Support strategy and content development for FNL websites, flyers, annual report, external meeting reports, and other outreach and engagement collateral, as needed BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in communication, public relations, life sciences, or related field from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for US equivalency. In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a communications role and/or project management role with communication responsibilities Versatile writer who excels in translating complex ideas into clear, compelling text that engages various technical and non-technical audiences. Facile in developing, writing, and editing a variety of communication materials including email, flyers, website content, reports, and papers Demonstrated strategic thinking, outstanding writing skills, and experience supporting development and implementation of strategic ideas and programs A passion for working productively on team efforts Outstanding interpersonal, communication, organizational, client relations, and project management skills Attention to detail and accuracy Commitment to innovation, organizational development, and acceleration of cancer research Creative problem-solver who is motivated to make an impact and demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively on a team and across multiple organizational levels Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated ability to understand and solve complex problems Experience in driving successful first-time initiatives or projects Experience in writing scientific communications for broad audiences Interest in scientific discovery and accelerating cancer research.
