Summary The Surety & Fidelity Association of America (SFAA), a trade association and licensed advisory organization located in Washington, DC, seeks an Analyst-Regulatory and Government Affairs professional. Reporting to the Vice President of Gernment Affairs and located in Washington, DC, or Austin, Texas, this position provides support for all government affairs activities that SFAA undertakes on behalf of its members. Essential Functions Research, analyze, and summarize state and federal legislation and regulations related to the surety and fidelity bond industry using research databases including StateNet, the Federal Register and various industry and general news sources. Produce periodic reports on state and federal legislation and regulations for SFAA members, SFAA newsletter articles, and reports on each state's legislative session. Develop draft web content on government affairs activities and, upon approval, submit for posting to SFAA website and social media pages. Assist Communications and IT staff with related website and social media page content management. Serve as junior staff member for Government Affairs Advisory Committee (GAAC). Record and publish minutes for GAAC meetings. Manage schedule for submitting comments on state and federal regulations and alert appropriate SFAA staff about due dates. Assist with drafting and submission of comments as needed. Schedule meetings for SFAA staff with Congressional staff to address surety and fidelity bond industry issues. Assist SFAA members with Congressional Action Day visits by making appointments and addressing questions on participation in the event. Assist Vice President of Government Affairs with Congressional Action Day materials as needed. Maintain and update state law charts summarizing statutory requirements for issues pertaining to the surety and fidelity bond industry. Competencies Knowledge of legislative and rulemaking process at the state and/or federal level preferred. Knowledge of insurance industry regulation preferred. Ability to perform legal research and general research on government affairs and regulatory compliance matters. Database management and recordkeeping. Excellent writing and proofreading skills. Strong oral and written communications skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work in fast paced environment. Ability to prioritize assignments based on SFAA's needs. Ability to be flexible to address changing priorities. Eager to learn. Position Type This is a full-time, exempt position. Travel Travel less than 10%. Most travel is related to events within Washington, DC Required / Preferred Education and Experience Four-year undergraduate degree Experience in government affairs role preferred. Government affairs experience may include work in a trade association or company, or a state legislature, Congress, and/or a state or federal agency. General knowledge of insurance industry preferred. Understanding of surety and fidelity bonds a plus.
