The Automated Budget Interactive Data Environment System (ABIDES) is an IT program owned by SAF/FM and is used across the Air Force for budgetary planning. The ABIDES environment includes a total of 18 AIX servers: 6 are in production and the other 12 are just spares or used for testing and development. The system uses an INGRES database with custom, locally created and maintained menu-driven user interfaces. Customers/Users access ABIDES through a Secure Shell (SSH) client called Secure Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) installed on their local SIPRNet Windows workstation. RESPONSIBILITIES Possess experience, training and expertise to administer AIX, UNIX and Linux servers; and proficiency with Network File System (NFS), Network Information System (NIS), and Network Installation Manager (NIM), and IBM Spectrum Protect. Maintain the AIX servers with patches and updates. Ensure the servers comply with cybersecurity regulations. Perform monthly tests of ABIDES system backups (backups are performed by JSP, system administrators should perform monthly tests of those backups to ensure they are working correctly). Install the Secure CRT SSH client on user workstations when requested. Assist users with Secure CRT client configuration to ensure access to ABIDES servers.
