Research Translation Operations Manager

The George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, within the Department of Communication, is seeking a Research Translation Operations Manager for the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health. About the Department: The Consortium is an organization of ten medical societies representing 400,000 physicians, which has come together to communicate with the public and policymakers about the health harms associated with climate change and the benefits of climate solutions. The mission and consensus statements of the Consortium and the resources it offers may be viewed at https://medsocietiesforclimatehealth.org/. The Consortium seeks to increase the capacity of individual physicians, national medical societies and their state chapters to address the challenge to human health represented by climate change. The Consortium will soon initiate a multiyear communication campaign based at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: This position reports to the Director, and will develop a plan for the program with input from the Director, Steering Committee, Advisory Committee, and communication consultants. The incumbent will, specifically:

Plan the program: * Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization; * Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program; * Develop an annual budget and operating plan to support the program; * Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement; and * Develop funding proposals for the program to ensure the continuous delivery of services.

Organize the Program: : * Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization; * Develop forms and records to document program activities; and * Oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the activities of the program for statistical purposes.

Lead the Program: * Communicate with clients and other stakeholders to gain community support for the program and to solicit input to improve the program; * Liaise with other managers to ensure the effective and efficient program delivery; and * Coordinate the delivery of services among different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

Manage the Program: * Write reports on the program for management and for funders; * Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements; * Ensure that the program operates within the approved budget; * Monitor and approve all budgeted program expenditures; * Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures; * Ensure that all financial records for the program are up to date; * Ensure financial reports and supporting documentation for funders are prepared as outlined in funding agreements; * Provide required information to have invoices generated and submitted to funders according to the established timelines; * Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework; and * Report evaluation findings to the Executive Director and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate.

Working Conditions: This position usually works in the office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. The incumbent works a standard work week but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to monitor program activities.

Required Qualifications: * Advanced degree in a related subject (health, environment); * Significant experience in managing multi-organization partnership initiatives with multiyear communication campaigns (five or more years of experience is strongly desired); and * Grant writing experience.

Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of program management; * Knowledge of client groups (medical societies and/or professional trade associations); * Knowledge of issues related to the program area (climate and health); * Ability to develop and write grant applications; and * Ability to find information easily using multiple sources.
