Director of Research and Strategy, Virginia Serious Game Institute

George Mason University's Virginia Serious Game Institute (VSGI) seeks qualified candidates for the VSGI Director of Research and Strategy position. The purpose of this role is to identify, write, manage, and submit serious game technology/science-related Federal, Commonwealth, corporate, and non-profit grants and contract proposals for VSGI researchers, Game faculty, partners, and affiliates. In coordination with the VSGI Director, Office of Sponsored Programs, and CVPA Associate Dean, the Director of R&S will work directly with VSGI/Game technical staff and SMEs to help research and write proposal technical solutions, project scopes, literature reviews, timelines, supporting documentation, and budgets.

The Director of R&S will also help provide pre-proposal data such as data calls, history of performance, teaming agreements, scopes of work, MOU's, resumes/CVs, and any additional supporting documentation to prospective partners or agencies as required. Post-award, the Director of R&S will manage timelines, project scopes, reporting requirements, hiring of project support staff (post-docs, GRAs, consultants), and budget reconciliation.

Moreover, the Director of R&S will work directly with the VSGI Director and staff to formulate the VSGI's national and international research and strategic plans, objectives, and goals that align with CVPA's and Mason's strategic research plans and goals.

Lastly, the Director of R&S is responsible for leading the dissemination and promotion of VSGI research activities and outcomes through coordination with Mason marketing, promotion, publications, and communication units and mediums.

Responsibilities * Support the VSGI/Game Team in building a vibrant collaborative research infrastructure that generates successful initiatives in grant and contract funding and project outcomes; * Leads/co-leads the formation and coordination of working groups on research proposal development, and coordinates VSGI's research partnerships with academic departments, schools, colleges, and research teams throughout Mason; * Ensures the quality of the VSGI's research activities, and the dissemination of research project outcomes with external constituencies to advance the effectiveness and impact of VSGI's research accomplishments; * Responsible for the preparation and presentation of materials for internal and external meetings, seminars, workshops, expos, and conferences that promote and cultivate collaborative research; * Provides quarterly reports of VSGI research activities to VSGI and CVPA Administration, the VPR Office, and OSP Staff; * In coordination with VSGI Director and Associate Director, revisit and revise research and strategy plans, objectives, and goals as appropriate on a semi-annual basis; * Meet with research clients, government agency/department officials, executive advisory board members, and research partners on behalf of the VSGI Director as required; and * Optional teaching of two (2) undergraduate or graduate courses per academic year as assigned by the VSGI/Game Director(s).

Required Qualifications * Master's degree in a related field, or Bachelor's degree with significant professional experience; * Extensive knowledge of the Federal grant and contracting proposal writing, submission, and awarding process; including Federal budget cycles, reporting guidelines, schedules, proposal types and structures, and requirements; * Extensive knowledge of Commonwealth and private and public foundation grants and contract opportunities, and their budget cycles, guidelines, schedules, proposal types & structures, and requirements; * Knowledge of proposal writing and tracking software applications and tools; * Knowledge of the current Game, VR, AR, and AI technologies and markets; * Possess an approach that fosters a respectful, non-threatening workplace environment; * Has a demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment; * Five years or more of successful grants, contract submissions, and awards; including a proven track-record of post-award project management and outcomes; * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required; * Proven critical thinking, problem solving, and judgment skills; and * Five years or more of successful post-secondary teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications * Doctorate in a related field, or Master's with significant professional experience.
