Responsibilities

The incumbent will be an HVAC Equipment Mechanic located within the HVAC Shop, Utilities Group Maintenance Branch, Facilities Engineering Division, of the Integrated Support Command Portsmouth, VA.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining domestic heating equipment systems.
  • Working on low-pressure home heating systems employing electronic monitoring, sequencing, and modulating controls.
  • Installing and troubleshooting small domestic and commercial air conditioning systems.
  • Replacing major portions of various cooling units, such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, soils, and drive assemblies.
  • Tightening connections, making splices, insulating exposed wires and cleans and lubricates moving parts; tests for proper operation and replaces items such as belts, fans and fuses.
