Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of trades and craft duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of facilities. Duties require the use of trade practices associated with carpentry, painting, and laboring work.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of building interiors. Patches and paints walls, replaces faucet washers, light bulbs and fuses. Hangs electrical fixtures and repairs screens and storm sashes.
  • Cuts grass, plants, trims hedges, trees and shrubbery. Dumps trash, waters plants and sweeps walkways, and may be required to shovel snow.
  • The incumbent may be required to operate a motor vehicle (government vehicle/bus, 1/2 to 1 ton motor vehicle). Ensures the safety and well-being of children, youth and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips.
  • Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change) transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
  • Arranges for the annual inspection of busses and assures, with prior approval of the supervisor, purchases and repairs pursuant to inspection. Ensures the bus always has sufficient fuel. Ensures vehicle is not loaded beyond the rated capacity.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-15. Incumbent will be required to complete a child care Tier 1 background investigation
  • A one year probationary period may be required
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
  • Completed and signed DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty
  • Work Schedule: Schedule includes irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends. Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Work Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Drives outside in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment throughout a military installation.
  • Working Conditions: Exposed to dirt and fumes, and the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving. Also works in a kitchen setting and exposed to the possibility of cuts scrapes and burns.
  • Appointment is subject to successful completion and favorable results of fingerprints, health assessment (physical), drug test, and Installation Record Checks to determine suitability for this position
  • Physical Requirement: Reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand/foot controls. Walking on a variety of surfaces, climbing, kneeling, stooping, pulling, pushing, standing, twisting, and sitting.
  • Physical Requirement: Requirement to lift and carry items up to 40 pounds frequently and items that are heavier with the assistance of other employees or lift equipment.
  • Physical Requirement: A current health assessment and immunizations in accordance with current Army and Department of Defense policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Physical Requirement: The incumbent must have the mental, physical (including dexterity), oral, and audio abilities at a level to assure the duties listed are performed in a safe and satisfactory manner
  • Test Designated Position: This position is subject to random drug testing as a condition of employment. Required to operate up to 1-ton trucks. May drive a government vehicle with a passenger as required.
  • License Requirement: Possess and have the ability to maintain a current valid state Driver's License. The incumbent may be required to operate a motor vehicle, ? Ton up to 1 Ton motor vehicle to and from work-site to transport material and personnel.
  • Training Requirements: Incumbent required to complete initial Hazmat training (40 hours) and annual refresher training. Must successfully complete a post Defensive Driving course

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
2. Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
3. Experience in accomplishing the types of duties described in this job ( see "Skill and Knowledge" ).

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:
Must have a working knowledge of wood working techniques and basic shop mathematics. Must be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and painting trades to perform a variety of tasks. Must have a knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Must have ability to read and follow basic blueprints and sketches. If assigned to operate a motor vehicle, must have skills and knowledge to accomplish safe operation of vehicles operated. Knowledge and skills to operate and maintain government assigned vehicles and to make judgments concerning loading and arranging cargo on these vehicles, routes to take, overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, ability to care for passengers and deal effectively with people in a hospitable manner, and follow maps when traveling to unfamiliar locations. Knowledge is required of the required regular preventive maintenance in maintaining these vehicles and the ability to detect developing maintenance problems. Skills in defensive driving and adjusting driving conditions to road conditions and the vehicle being driven.

HIGHLY PREFERRED CRITERIA:
1. Possess at least six (6) months of work experience as a Motor Vehicle Operation (MVO) or an equivalent career field.
2. Possess work experience with special events equipment for site set-up and takedown.
