Summary

The Staff Physician (Primary Care) provides a full range of therapeutic interventions in units/programs in the Hampton VAMC. The Staff Physician has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management. The Provider position may be located at Hampton VAMC; Virginian Beach CBOC or Chesapeake CBOC.

Responsibilities

Other duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide leadership guidance and consultation to assigned staff units and serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assists in implementation of treatment plan as appropriate regarding their patients.
  • Provide a full range of services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in their subspecialty.
  • Perform appropriate evaluations, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Participate effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Order diagnostic tests and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and make appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate.
  • Plan and oversee the completion of personal research programs, designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/01/2020.
Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: American Board Certified, Internal/Family Medicine.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent needs to be mobile in that the job requires, sitting, walking, standing and bending. Work requires trips daily from employee's work-site to other areas throughout the Medical Center.

Education

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. If selected for this position, please contact the local coordinator where this position is located.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
