Responsibilities

This position is a Headquarters, United States Marshals Service (USMS), Information Technology Division (ITD) Office of Information Technology (ITS) position located in a USMS District Office or at Headquarters (HQ). The incumbent serves as an IT Specialist the Systems Administrator (SA) for one or more districts or the HQ offices, as assigned by the Regional Systems Administrator (RSA) as assigned by the Branch Chief, or Chief Information Officer (CIO), or his designee. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing (IT) systems within assigned area of responsibility.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Analyzing the IT requirements necessary to meet user needs within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Planning, designing, developing, and implementing secure, cost-effective IT solutions that best satisfy user needs and that are consistent with Federal, Department of Justice (DOJ), and USMS guidelines and standards.
  • Operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining IT systems.
  • Retiring and properly disposing of IT systems that have reached the end of their useful life.
  • Serving as the primary representative of the district(s)/HQ office(s) for which he/she is responsible.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required experience and specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:

Experience Requirements: You must have IT-related experience in each of the following four competencies listed below which must be supported by the information contained in your resume and other application materials.

  • PROBLEM SOLVING: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement described above, you must have Specialized Experience described below.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service performing duties related to: Managing the configuration, installation, and integration of network switches, routers, workstations, and hardware/software components into the current enterprise; Evaluating network and other technology alternatives and assessing them against established criteria to recommend the best possible solution for customers; Planning, developing, and implementing secure, cost-effective networking IT solutions for customers; Participating on IT functionality teams to help with development, implementation and/or execution of specialized IT tasks or projects; and Assisting the facilitation of IT change control processes to ensure services are within budget and schedule. (This experience must be reflected on your resume to meet the requirements of the position.)
