This position is located in the United States Department of the Treasury, Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), within the Office of Information Technology (OIT); Enterprise Services; Service Desk.

Responsibilities

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Use the automated trouble ticket systems to record actions taken to resolve and provide technical assistance to end users. Support includes the management and support of incident tickets, password issues and access, problem management, service requests, system access, etc., both for on-site and off-site personnel.
  • Support the organizations' end users and provide troubleshooting support or take appropriate corrective action when problems are encountered. Responsibilities focus on the integration and maintenance of components comprising a variety of end user devices/peripherals (e.g., printers, storage devices, monitors, scanners, other); communications devices; and other related equipment and components.
  • Participate in the planning and delivery of a full range of IT support services to the organization
  • Provide IT support in a manner that minimizes interruptions in end users' ability to carry out critical business activities.
  • Represent the Service Desk in planning for the installation and implementation of new systems (e.g., upgrade to a new operating system)

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Providing workstation user network account support to include setup and configuration; AND
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining operational support systems, (i.e. personal computer hardware, peripherals, training and advisory assistance, diagnosis and resolution of operating problems); AND
  • Participating as part of a team to work on various IT related projects.

OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 2 full academic years of progressively higher graduate level education or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems, management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the field identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.


Specialized experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience providing end user technical support; AND
  • Providing application maintenance and basic troubleshooting; AND
  • Supporting IT related projects in a team environment.

OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. IT-related education and/or IT-related experience is required upon entry. Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.

For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
