The District of Columbia Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants has partnered with Give an Hour to develop the Enhancing the District's Response to Trauma (EDRT) project. Across the District, traumatic exposure is high and exposure to multiple traumatic events is common. There is a critical need to effectively respond to the mental health needs of trauma victims and by harnessing the skills and generosity of mental health professionals in DC, together we can provide those in need with help and hope. Volunteer Providers are DC licensed mental health professionals who set aside one session per week for one year to see a pro bono client from the EDRT project. EDRT clients are victims of crime, justice-involved adults and juveniles, previously incarcerated persons, and youth at risk of truancy or juvenile delinquency. Services may be provided by phone, in person or using HIPAA compliant video therapy. Providers sign up on our website as ready and available to assist someone when the need arises. Not all mental health professionals will have a client all year. The commitment is flexible and Give an Hour works with you to ensure you are receiving the information, training and tools to be successful, including: Free Continuing EducationFree and discounted tools for use in private practice Free opportunities to connect with experts and professionals Healing Begins with YOU One hour a week can truly make a difference in someone's life.
